Aikido North Sydney
- Aikido
The home dojo of the Takemusu Aiki Association, teaching Iwama-style aikido with sword and staff three evenings a week and outdoors in Redfern Park on Sundays. Visitors from other aikido styles and other arts are welcome if they ask first, and a casual class is sold.
- The style
- Iwama-style aikido, with empty-hand and weapons work studied as one, and the fundamentals returned to again and again. Students grade from 5th kyu to 1st kyu and on to shodan, with exams twice a year.
- Lineage
- It teaches the aikido of Morihei Ueshiba as Morihiro Saito preserved it at the founder's own dojo in Iwama. Saburo Takayasu was at the last class O-Sensei taught there, in 1969. Dan grades come from Hombu, through the Aikikai Foundation.
- The teacher
- Takayasu, 7th dan Shihan, started his first North Sydney dojo in 1976 and founded the Takemusu Aiki Association four years later, in 1980.
