Athma Kalari Village
- Kalaripayattu
Ashan Vipin Das's family kalari and gurukulam in a Kerala village, where students live on site and train twice a day in a traditional kalari pit, on 10-day programs with fixed dates or stays of one or two months.
- The style
- Kalaripayattu taught in a traditional pit dug into the earth. Everyone starts with body training: stances, kicks and jumps. Then come long and short sticks, sword and shield, spear and dagger, with strikes, locks and throws taught last.
- Lineage
- Ashan Vipin Das learned the art from his grandfather, and his family's kalari line from Valluvanad reaches its 8th generation in him. His teachers were Sri Vijayan Gurukkal in the Vadakkan style, Sri Jammal Kalari in the Madhya Kerala style and Sri Babu Varghese in Kadathanadan.
- The teacher
- He began at 7, has practiced for more than 29 years, and opened the family kalari to everyone in 2005.
